Sintra, Portugal...

Updated: Jul 25, 2021

Is such a charming village with its unyielding views at every turn...we enjoyed hiking and exploring this area. This area is so rich in Portuguese history and culture. It is just 40 minutes by train from Lisbon. There is two castles and one palace located in the hills above Sintra. We visited the Pena Palace, the Moorish Castle and La Quinta de Regaleria. We choose to hike up to them instead of the transportation.

Bacalhau (which means Cod in Portuguese) is one of the most popular foods since Portugal is so accessible to the ocean. They serve is whole and grilled. Charcuterie Boards are also offered at most of the restaurants. Gelato was amazing from the locally owned shops.

We enjoyed shopping in the locally owned shops with merchandise indicative to Portugal. Beautiful pottery, hand made jewelry, purses made of cork and so many other lovely handmade items. Portuguese pottery is some of the most beautiful in the world. Below are the Swallows made of pottery which represent Love, Faithfulness and Loyalty. Swallows have a single partner for their entire life. The colorful pottery in the middle is olive bowls...they have a place for the olives and one for the pits. The last pictures is some beautiful pottery that we bought to use everyday. All of these items remind us of our amazing trips to Portugal.

It is a lot of hill and steeps climbs on the hiking trails but so worth it because of the most amazing views. We were there in June and the temperatures were very comfortable.
